ROOMS TO GO PURSUES OWN RHODES SHOW.

HIGH POINT, N.C.-Rooms To Go, the nation's largest furniture retailer, could gain access to neighboring states and smaller markets with its $45.8 million bid to acquire about 50 stores from Atlanta-based Rhodes Furniture, which filed for bankruptcy in November.

A source familiar with Rooms To Go's offer confirmed that the Seffner, Fla.-based retailer beat out a previous offer by RoomStore, Richmond, Va., to purchase stores at less than $1 million each -- including several in areas that border the six Southern states where Rooms To Go currently operates 100 stores.
