In January 2004, Penny Green, the current Pensions Management Institute (PMI) president, organised a blue-sky discussion meeting to identify how the APMI qualification could be updated to address the future needs of the pension industry. The outcome of the meeting was to set up three working groups, each allocated to review an element of the qualification process. The three elements identified were syllabus, tuition and assessment.
