The Manlius and DeWitt police departments have hired new officers to fill openings created by transfers to the Syracuse Police Department in June.
DeWitt has filled one of two openings created when Richard Hargraves and Sean Mehlek transferred, said Chief Gene Conway .
Jonathan F. Bierl , 27, of West Seneca, Erie County, reported to the Mohawk Valley Police Academy in Utica on Aug. 8.
Bierl has long been interested in police work but found opportunities limited in Erie County, Conway said.
