Justice White's retirement means the start of a new era for the judiciary
After flourishing for more than a decade, the Supreme Court's conservative revolution is sputtering to a halt. The retirement this summer of senior Justice Byron R. White - the last member of the Earl Warren era on the high bench - will give Bill Clinton the opportunity to set in motion a potentially broad reshaping of the law on fundamental questions such as privacy, race, religion and government powers.
