AURORA -- The city would close the door on pit bulls not licensed before Aug. 9, and owners of dogs allowed to stay would have to meet strict requirements under a proposal made public Thursday.
Since no new pit bulls would be permitted in Aurora, the proposal developed by a City Council subcommittee would evolve into a ban on the breed as legal dogs die off.
Members of the subcommittee took up the proposal a day after three pit bulls escaped from their home in the 12300 block of East 30th Avenue and attacked a border collie, which had to be euthanized.
