Gov. Jim Doyle today unveiled a comprehensive conservation agenda that calls for restoring the state's environmental watchdog, designating two rivers for new state protection, and taking new steps to protect against invasive aquatic species.
Dubbed "Conserve Wisconsin," the proposal includes several legislative initiatives that may face tough sledding in the Republican-controlled Legislature.
Chief among those is Doyle's proposal to bring back the public intervenor, an independent environmental lawyer for the state with the power to sue other state agencies.
