As demonstrated during Operation Desert Storm, computer-aided mission planning systems can perform in minutes some of the functions previously accomplished with pen, paper and hours of brain work. The complex air tasking orders generated in the desert would have been nearly impossible without this equipment.
Yet even with such aid, churning out several phone books worth of air tasking orders proved a 24-hours-a-day task. Extended wars or emergency missions where time is critical will demand faster, more efficient systems.
