NEW YORK -- Cosmetics manufacturers and retailers are getting high on acid -- acid-based skin care products, that is.
Although dermatologists have been prescribing skin treatments with alphahydroxy (AHA) and other acid ingredients for years, the beauty industry only recently began marketing its own over-the-counter acid-based products in earnest.
Now acid-based treatment has become a major trend, with a bevy of recent
launches leading the treatment category. Many retailers said the new acid-based products are contributing to the fastest growth the category has experienced in years.
