A SMUGGLER has been arrested at an airport with 375 endangered tortoises packed into his suitcases.
He hoped to sell them for a total of [pounds sterling]28,000, but was caught at Frankfurt Airport in Germeny after a drug sniffer dog raised the alarm.
The smuggler, a Croatian who cannot be named for legal reasons, was on his way to Croatia from Dubai. He was planning to sell the tortoises in Zagreb for about [pounds sterling]75 each.
They were tied together with rubber bands and wrapped in cloth sacks.
