CATEGORY. Funds are divided into three categories. Diversified international funds invest primarily in stocks of companies based outside the U.S.; this category includes broad-based funds and funds without a specific geographical base. Specialized international funds invest in a single country or region of the world. Global funds can invest in the U.S. and overseas.
