EDITORIAL: Where is government transparency?

Aug. 23--In case the Leon County health-care advisory committee hasn't heard, Florida plowed revolutionary ground almost four decades ago when the state's Sunshine law was added to the books.

It put public officials on notice that, with few exceptions, citizens have the right to attend government meetings and inspect records.

The public's business also includes knowing how elected officials and their designated representatives vote - not just the final tally, but how each official votes.

On Aug. 11 the Leon County health-care advisory committee erred when it conducted a secret ballot, on paper, with no one required to sign his or her name, on its $1 million ...
