When Heiko A. Oberman died in April 2001, he had reached the biblical age of threescore and ten, but by no means the end of his scholarly vitality and insight. As Donald Weinstein's introduction to the volume points out, at the time of his death, Oberman was at work on two books--a history of Calvin and Calvinism, where his deepest sympathies had always been, and a broad assessment of the Reformation of the sixteenth century.
