It would be easy to assume that historians have already disinterred everything worth knowing about the trial and execution of Charles I. To the contrary, however, the eleven essays in this volume, originally presented as papers at a conference commemorating the 350th anniversary of the king's demise, admirably succeed in their goal to "offer new impetus for a thorough re-evaluation" of the subject (10).
