FSU police chief resigns.

Aug. 24--The chief of Florida State University's police resigned abruptly Tuesday, saying in a letter he needed to help his ailing mother.

But Carey Drayton's lawyer said he fears his client was forced to quit after university administrators found out about a paternity suit against him.

"I'm not a labor or employment attorney, but I cannot fathom how something in his personal life affects his professional responsibilities," said John Kenny, Drayton's lawyer.
