Aug. 24--Like many a good Southern girl, Melinda McDaniel learned to cook holding on to her mama's apron strings.
Mama must have been a good teacher. For the past 17 years, McDaniel -- with help from son Blair -- has owned and operated the Marinated Mushroom, a successful catering business that counts Gov. Jeb Bush as one of its satisfied customers.
Two years ago, she added a cafe to the small storefront where she serves lunch Tuesday through Friday.
Born and reared in Bonifay, McDaniel said she's always loved to cook because "growing up in a small town, there wasn't much to do."
