The ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) automobile company, Santa Rosa, Calif., and technology partner Apollo Energy Systems, Pompano Beach, Fla., have announced the successful demonstration of a patented "Ammonia Cracker" technology as a method to power zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell cars. Apollo's alkaline fuel cells derive their energy from ammonia, as the Ammonia Cracker breaks the ammonia down into hydrogen to power the fuel cell. The technology offers cost savings and other advantages over other hydrogen fuel cell solutions.
