The Arizona Diamondbacks made a splash the week before the June draft.
They signed Florida State shortstop Stephen Drew, their first-round pick in 2004 and brother of big-league outfielder J.D. Drew, to a major-league contract.
The deal carried a $4 million bonus, which can be spread over four years, and a $1.5 million salary guarantee.
Now the Diamondbacks are paying for it.
A couple of days after the signing, the Diamondbacks used the No. 1 pick in this year's draft to take high school shortstop Justin Upton.
