Sales of U.S. high-value food products are flourishing in the Caribbean and in countries along South America's northeastern coastline. U.S. agricultural exports to the Caribbean islands, as well as to Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam and French Guiana, amounted to $1.32 billion in 1991 *, of which over one-third, or $444 million, consisted of high-value products.
Netherlands Antilles
Of the Caribbean countries, the Netherlands Antilles is the top importer of U.S. high-value food products by value. With $94.5 million worth of U.S. agricultural exports sold to this country in 1991, almost $77 million went toward high-value foods. Three of its islands, Bonaire, ...
