MERCIFULLY, Musselburgh stands six miles east of the bagpipe player who stands at the corner of P rinces Street and Waverley Bridge, in Edinburgh. People keep putting money in the box next to him, but he still won't go away.
The racecourse is a short drive from Edinburgh city centre (I'm speculating, because my driver kept turning the steering wheel the long way) or a challenging swim across the Firth of Forth. It's also a short bus ride from the racecourse car park - the racecourse supplies the bus, and a free racecard.
