What remains of Santa Clara Elementary School will escape the wrecking ball, at least for now.
Eugene School District Superintendent George Russell announced Friday that the district will put the fire-damaged property up for sale "as is." That will give community members who hope to save the building a chance to put together a fair-market offer to buy and restore it.
Russell had planned to authorize the demolition of the building, which has been designated surplus property since being closed in 2002. A June 15 fire destroyed the building's gym and cafeteria area and seriously damaged most of the remaining ...
