Oswego Mayor John Gosek is ready to appoint a new police chief.
A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday. For at least a week, rumors have pegged Aug. 31 - Wednesday - as the date police Chief Alexander Zukovsky would retire.
Off the record, sources have said it's true, Zukovsky will resign as of Wednesday. On the record, neither Gosek nor Zukovsky will confirm that.
"I hear the same thing, but Alex has not put in any paperwork. He hasn't resigned. At this point he's still the police chief and I'm still looking at the candidates," Gosek said. "It's all speculative until Wednesday."
