The unjust steward had the responsibility of collecting payments for his master. Some have speculated that the master was an absentee landlord. Once the steward realized that his job was in jeopardy due to his poor management of his master's resources, he set in motion a plan to provide security for himself during his unemployment. The unjust steward prudently provided himself a safety net, but he did so in a manner that was unethical. His concern was for himself and not for doing the right thing. The master's unfortunate complimenting of the steward's behavior says more about the character of the master or rich person than the inappropriateness of the steward's actions: ...
