Faced with spiraling costs for managing and maintaining its outdated voice network in 2003, and dogged by its chronic inability to find upgrade parts and software, UMB Bank decided, albeit unwillingly, to become an early adopter of a hosted IP telephony network from SBC Communications.
The consolidation of UMB's voice and data network through an SBC converged IP solution saves the bank about $5,000 monthly, says Jim Matteoni, chief information officer, UMB Bank, Kansas City, Mo. The bank saves another $5,000 or so monthly by using SBC's various consulting, maintenance, management and security services.
