Since the 1970s, bar codes have provided a reliable, inexpensive form of machine-readable identification. In fact, automating repetitive processes and improving data accuracy are the two most significant reasons for integrating bar code readers into OEM bio-diagnostic systems. Studies have shown that 1 out of 300 manually keyed entries results in an error, but only one out of 3 million scanned entries (using a code 39 bar code) results in an error. Yet these benefits are difficult to realize if the bar coding system doesn't function properly.
