SAVINGS BONDS ARE NO LONGER WALLFLOWERS. The current guaranteed minimum interest rate of 6% is twice what money-market funds deliver and well above yields on certificates of deposit---even those with maturities of three to four years.
Yet U.S. households have some $3 .4 trillion stagnating in CDs, money funds and bank savings accounts. It's time to take another look at savings bonds, even if you don't intend to hold them for live years or longer.
