BancorpSouth Inc. of Tupelo, Miss., is buying American State Bank Corp. of Jonesboro for an undisclosed sum.
The deal is subject to the approval of American State Bank Corp.'s shareholders and banking regulators.
BancorpSouth said the deal will expand its Arkansas presence into four northeast Arkansas counties and add 11 branches. BancorpSouth operates 48 banking locations in 24 Arkansas cities with about $1.7 billion in deposits.
