The One Code Summit sponsored by the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) this past May proved to be very interesting. The one thing ASPE did was hold the summit in the middle of a hornets' nest. By sponsoring the summit in Chicago, they were going to a part of the country that is probably the furthest from any concept of a single national code.

The Chicago metro area is a mishmash of plumbing codes. Every little burg has its own rules and regulations. Besides that, the state writes its own code that is not based on any of the model plumbing codes. The city of Chicago, of course, has the most restrictive plumbing code in the area.
