Aug. 31--SAN BERNARDINO -- San Bernardino County's building industry made a $4.034 billion economic splash last year, accounting for more than 12 percent of jobs in the county, according to a new economic analysis released Tuesday.

The report prepared by Dr. John Husing of Economics and Politics Inc. found that the housing industry accounts for 63,281 of the San Bernardino County's 607,690 jobs.

Husing said that while the High Desert's residential construction is outpacing local job creation, it will take less than the usual seven years for the industry to develop local jobs. The same pattern of economic development ...
