Since the first MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) devices became available, one of the two largest applications was in the bioMEMS (biomedical/biological/biochemical MEMS) area, with the other application being in the accelerometer based airbag systems.
According to a forecast by the Nexus Task Force, the market for bioMEMS is expected to reach $18 billion for 2005. Over the past few years, bioMEMS devices have become the largest and most diverse applications of MEMS devices with applications in:
* Biosensors (General)
* Cell Handling Devices
* Drug Delivery Devices
* Molecular Detection/Handling
* Neural ...
