The company that invented the batteries used in today's gas-electric hybrid vehicles wants to launch a new company in Akron with facilities that would help develop clean-burning hydrogen automobiles.
Akron native Stanford Ovshinsky unveiled his vision Aug. 15 that includes his hometown becoming a leader in hydrogen fuel development.
"Anything that burns can be replaced by hydrogen. Wood, coal, oil, anything. And you have no pollution. You have no climate change gases,'' said Ovshinsky, 85, president of Ovonic Hydrogen Systems, a subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices Inc., a Rochester Hills, Mich.-based company he ...
