WASHINGTON - The Health Insurance Association of America is now backing a mandate under which employers would be required to pay at least part of the cost of an essential benefit package of health insurance for their employees and dependents.
At a press conference, HIAA President Bill Gradison said the board of directors decided to "enhance" its recent vision statement on health care reform, which had earlier called for employers to offer employees a package of health benefits, but not necessarily pay for it.
