Aug. 31--While more victims of Hurricane Katrina are finding their way to San Antonio seeking refuge, the local tourism industry also could see a boost from conventions booked by New Orleans that now need alternative sites.

The San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau has received numerous calls from meeting planners and groups over the past few days, said John Solis, the bureau's vice president of sales and services.

"This is scary for New Orleans," Solis said. "Like San Antonio, New Orleans has a huge tourism industry. Unfortunately, they will be down the rest of the fall and easily the first quarter of next year. ...
