State Rep. Scott Suder has an eccentric definition of the term "hate speech."

Serious definitions of the term break down along the following lines:

Hate speech: a controversial term for speech intended to degrade, intimidate, or incite violence or prejudicial action against someone based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation or disability.

But when concerns are raised about racially insensitive remarks, Suder rarely if ever speaks up.

When concerns are raised about statements that demean or intimidate immigrants based on their national origin or citizenship status, Suder is silent.
