RECORD numbers of students are taking a gap year between school and university, figures show today.
Australia and New Zealand are the favourite destinations for those travelling but South America - particularly Brazil - is catching up fast.
There has been a surge of almost 10 per cent in the number of teenagers taking time out after A-levels in the past year, according to the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (Ucas).
This year, 25,694 students will take a gap year, up from 23,460 last year.
The breaks have doubled in popularity in the past decade.
