MIAMI -- The National Labor Relations Board will hold a hearing in Miami today to determine whether a union election can be held at America TeVe-Channel 41, an independent station in Miami.
Seeking to organize workers at the station is the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists, which is actively pursuing Spanish-language television workers, among whom a union presence is very limited.
Only a handful of Univision and Telemundo stations throughout the country are union shops. Florida, where Telemundo is headquartered and Univision's TV networks are based, is a "right to work" state.
