When we usually think of teaching a self-portrait lesson, we often get out the mirrors to try to capture the inside personality by drawing the outside view. I once came across a quote by Marisol that stated, "Everything an artist does is some kind of self-portrait." I decided to apply this idea to something other than a mirror portrait.
I had also been collecting posters and advertisements that show illustrated letters. The combination of illustrated letters and personal attributes helped me develop this popular lesson in graphic design. Below I have outlined the steps that will help you organize and plan this unit.
