Levemir
(insulin detemir [rDNA origin] injection, Novo Nordisk)
A long-acting basal insulin analog with up to 24 hours duration of action for adults with diabetes mellitus who require long-acting insulin. The second Food and Drug Administration-approved basal insulin; the first was Lantus (insulin glargine), approved in 2000. Levemir is currently under FDA review for pediatric use.
