Consumers may not have turned out early and often, but they have voted with their dollars enough lately to lift the industry to flat dollar-sales growth for calendar year 2004 (0.8%, in supermarkets, drug stores and mass merchandisers, excluding Wal-Mart), according to Information Resources, Inc.
