WHEN I read that scientists had found yet more healthgiving properties of olive oil, I couldn't help but smile.
Not only is it good for the heart, but now American researchers believe that extra virgin olive oil relieves pain and inflammation in a similar way to drugs such as ibuprofen and aspirin. In the long term, it may even protect against cancer.
Such a finding will be welcomed by every devotee of the oil. Once found only in forbidding bottles in chemists' shops and used solely for medicinal purposes, olive oil is now part of the staple diet of millions of Britons.
