NEXT Monday, Keeneland will offer the first of 5,110 yearlings scheduled to go through its sales ring in Lexington, Kentucky, over the next two weeks. It is the largest number of horses ever compiled for the world's biggest yearling sale, which last year set a record for the greatest turnover recorded at a public thoroughbred auction - $324,904,300.
The 2004 sale also sold the highest-priced yearling in September Sale history, the $8 million Storm Cat--Welcome Surprise colt.
These are some whopping figures; but big numbers ...
