A device for percutaneous treatment of functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) has been implanted for the first time in a human being, according to developer of the device Cardiac Dimensions Inc.
The trademarked Carillon mitral contour system was implanted in the patient, a man of 62, in Hamburg, Germany, as part of the company's clinical trial on the device.
The cArillon Mitral Annuloplasty Device European Union Study (Amadeus) is a safety and efficacy study of the device that is being carried out at seven centres across Europe. The study will enrol 30 patients, assessing safety and efficacy at one, three and six month intervals.
