Tunisia takes pride in its economic achievements. The World Economic Forum has ranked Tunisia's economy 30th in the world in terms of global competitiveness, ahead of Spain, China and South Africa.
The economy has recovered well after a testing first year for the government's 10th economic plan covering the years 2002 to 2006 in the aftermath of 9/11 and the 2002 terrorist attack in Djerba. Year-on-year economic growth for 2003 and 2004 was in excess of 5%, a level likely to be maintained in 2005. The economic prospects for the following years appear to be bright.
