Sep. 3--Like a ship in a storm, Bay County dive and charter boats are getting hit from all sides by a gas shortage caused by Hurricane Katrina.
Mike Gomez, Panama City Dive and Ski Center owner, said business is down due to poor water conditions created by the storm. But he said Katrina was especially bad because of the hit it put on gas supplies.
Gomez said boat captains are spending more to fill up and out-of-state customers are canceling trips to the area because of gas prices. Bay County is the second busiest dive area in the nation because it is accessible by car.
