ORGANIZED, BIG-TIME gambling is about to come to the Caribbean nation of Guyana. That's the pledge of Manzoor Nadir, Guyana's Minister of Tourism, Industry, and Commerce.
Sitting in the Caribbean between Venezuela and Suriname, Guyana will have "its first casino within three years and a 320-room hotel close by the Pegasus Hotel," says Nadir. "It's a significant investment."
Pascal Mongeau, general manager of the worldwide Meridien chain's 132-room Pegasus Hotel, says that a New York contracting-engineering firm will build the new casino and hotel on a site just west of the twenty-three-year-old Pegasus, which has been Guyana's prime hotel ever since it ...
