FENNIMORE -- One of Sid Cook's favorite memories is of winning the best cheddar competition at last year's Wisconsin State Fair.
Facing "lots of competition from some big names" in cheese, Cook said, "I snuck in there with this ugly little moldy wheel and won it. It was probably the first time in 100 years that a bandage-wrapped cheddar with a native rind won." He explained that a bandaged cheddar is "an old-fashioned round cheddar with a band of cheesecloth" around it.
