TU Tackles Skimming

TransUnion, a Chicago-based global information provider, is fighting back against an industry problem known as skimming, which most often involves a retail or restaurant employee swiping a credit card through a small, illegal reader. The "skimmer" copies data encoded on a card's magnetic stripe so the criminal can create a counterfeit card. A TransUnion product, called Common Point of Purchase, creates a pooled database of historical data about all known skimmed cards from multiple credit card portfolios.
