THIS COLUMN continues the annual tradition of presenting the work of two emerging scholars in professional communication. Linda Brender received a Ph.D. from Wayne State University in 2004 and is a professor of English at Macomb Community College. Erin Karper received a Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2004 and is an assistant professor of English at Niagara University.
Both of these scholars collected data using qualitative research methods. Brender's ethnographic study delves into the on-site practices of entrepreneurial nurses who drew on effective writing guidelines from members of other discourse communities (including lawyers, management consultants, and marketing ...
