Piston and piston ring failures usually share common causes. Quite often, there may be a single problem. But most of the time, multiple problems develop as a result of a primary problem or condition. Troubleshooting pistons and piston rings requires some skill in analyzing engine noise and smoke, as well as evaluating the diagnostics of starting and running the engine.
