After several years of planning his first house, Dan Holl was certain about one thing he did not need: a living room.
A formal living room is "200 square feet of wasted space," said Holl, 31.
"At your grandparents' home or your parents' home, they have the nice furniture in there, but no, no, don't sit in there," he said. "So what's it for? It's for special occasions. ... What? Do you go in there when the president visits you?"
