Capsule view. Although the desktop personal-computer industry is in a state of flux, (prices are dropping, distribution is shifting, major players are reorganizing), big changes also are happening in the smaller type of personal-computer markets. Pen, palm, and notebook computers are posting significant revenues and are projected to show dramatic growth through 1998.
According to a recent study by Market Intelligence Research Corp., (MIRC), a Mountain View, Calif.-based research firm, it's a relatively new market but in 1991, 4.6 million units of notebook computers and peripherals were shipped in the U.S. generating revenues of more than $2 billion.
